The D740 Gen 2 High Performance (HP) is the closest you can get to Gen 3 performance without paying the Gen 3 price. Standard features of the 740 include a heavy duty low profile Picatinny rail mount system and a waterproof housing that can stand up to the recoil of a .50 BMG weapon system. However, the gem of this optic is the illuminated red-on-green selectable Mil-Dot reticule. This is the only NV rifles cope in the world that has this user selectable amber or red Mil-Dot reticule. During long hours of testing this scope, we have found that the amber reticule causes less eye fatigue.

The color selection is located on the power switch and reticule intensity is standard on these units. We have demoed the D760 to numerous LE and Federal agencies who are using them for clandestine operations in our high desert regions.

We have listened to many folks who have requested a night vision tube at a lower price than Gen 3. While it is true that Gen 3 is the top of the line, certain Gen 2 tubes have performance characteristics that can rival the next gen. After months of testing and evaluation of numerous tubes, we have found what we feel is the best value and performance for the limited budget. We are offering these tubes in the D740 platform. The Gen 2 High Performance D740 rifle scope is rated at 5,000 hrs+ tube life and features outstanding cosmetics. The biggest difference you will notice is the greenish tint of the image versus the Gen 3 yellow tint.

In some of the “through the tube” NV pics, you will see a slight shaded area running vertically. ANY rear-projected reticule rifle scope has a “darker” reticule-plate stripe. This is due to the coating on the etched plate to reflect red/amber light back towards the eyepiece. The 4x system will have a more pronounced reticule-plate due to the lower magnification and a slightly higher overall brightness. This phenomenon is virtually undetectable with the naked eye (in opposition to a much more sensitive camera) and in no way impairs the performance.

The D740 is one of the best options available for military and LE work, but is also perfectly suited for the civilian varmint hunter. In fact, we send a lot of these units to our hog and coyote-hunting clients in the great American state of Texas! They provide us with fantastic After Action Reports and plenty of great trophy pics.
